Author’s Note, 3 January 2016: This volume, Interview with an Oracle, has attracted far more attention than ever expected; during December 2015 alone over 1100 copies were downloaded from Amazon. Clearly, the Oracle’s message—and perhaps more importantly his warnings—regarding the current state of our culture and civilization touched a nerve. After receiving a remarkable number of messages from members of our mailing list community, and on the impressively determined insistence of certain members of our crew here at Wisdom Masters Press, I thought to provide an addendum containing a retrospective essay to illuminate the Oracle’s observations in a broader context based on a historical overview of the variations, vicissitudes, and evolutions of government through the ages. I feel that the observation of history can be of great value; we may learn more of the nature of man by watching his behavior through the centuries than by reading Plato, Spinoza and Kant. “All philosophy,” as Nietzsche observed, “has now fallen forfeit to history.” The astute reader, in all too many portions of this retrospective, will hear echoes of the Oracle’s message, and will feel the veracity of his observations throughout. You’ll find the essay in the second to last chapter of this book, titled ‘Regarding the History of Government.’
