One of the running themes that has been emphasized to Jason and I lately is the concept of unity and working in service rather than laying the emphasis of growth being focused on self alone.  We don’t have to save the world but there are times when we are presented with an opportunity to be in service, to recognize the call and do what you can do in response.

A friend and longtime member here named Dottie Thompson called me over Thanksgiving. She was in shock, having just been given news of a major calamity for herself and her husband Bob. After a long protracted process over many years and many exhausting failures of trying to save their home, the verdict was given.  They were going to lose their home to foreclosure. There was a sale and the bank owns their home now. It all happened very fast. It will remain empty and unused while two people with physical disabilities scramble to find shelter. The system we live in astonishes me, but the truth is Dottie on some deeper level of being orchestrated the situation.

 Naively, Dottie took on a bad mortgage loan back in 2003 when that was common bank practice.  Like many Americans who are a few missed paychecks from disaster, they found themselves in a tidal wave of debt very quickly. A medical crisis for Bob, an expensive hospital stay and the resulting job loss destroyed the delicate balance of debt that they could handle and sucked up their savings in a flash.  

 For years, not always under the best guidance they tried credit counseling and to take the correct legal measures to prevent losing their home but somehow circumstances (part of the higher plan) funneled them into the choices that led this final irrevocable scenario.

For Dottie and Bob let’s welcome support in the way of any guidance, any words of love and support, but ALSO REALLY MORE importantly practical resources and information some of you may have.

For example maybe someone has or someone knows of someone who may have affordable property to rent, perhaps a rent to own situation or for those who have ample space without incurring hardship on themselves they could offer a temporary living situation until a real solution can be found, and or who could lend a hand in the moving process to help them move out since they would have trouble moving boxes of things with their physical disabilities. They have 5 weeks to find a living situation and move their belongings out of their house. Another issue going on is with their pets. They have an older mellow dog and 2 kitties it would be wonderful if the new location would be a place that allows some well behaved pets. If not, maybe someone can help foster them?

Dottie has some physical disabilities from injuries which prevent her from walking too far and standing too long and basically entering back into the workforce. She also has poor health likely from the house itself which they suspect is harboring mold in the walls from a basement flood in 2005.  Her husband also has some physical disabilities but not as bad as Dottie and spends his time caring for her. They each receive some social security for rent and bills and would be able to rent but it is a limited income and their credit is in shambles. Pennsylvania has extremely stressed resources and not much to offer in the way of social welfare programs. 

She said, to me,” I know that this is part of my higher self’s plan. I know I DID THIS and now I just need to figure out what the next best step is. I I am not looking for sympathy or charity but I am open to guidance and a scenario that could be the best possible situation for all involved. I am reaching out for support and for strength and for the good energy and thoughts and love from the group, whom I consider my spiritual family can you let them know?”

Calamity is part of the brutal classroom. None of us are immune. I know that I don’t know what tomorrow may bring. Many of us are younger and in good health and should we lose our livihood and face eviction we could go out, able bodied, find work and rebuild our life.  Dottie and her husband are older and limited physically and going back to work is just not an option. They are good people and with hearts and minds in the right place and are just going through a rough patch.

Dottie and Bob live in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania which is about an hour and half from Philadelphia. They are open to moving anywhere especially close to one of our family! They have just enough resources saved for them to move to a new affordable healthy home  (single level home)  free of mold and get settled they just don’t have a location yet or the help to move.

I talked with Jason about it and what he would do if it were him and he said the thing to do in times like this is to surrender ultimately and deeply to the unknown and to get very clear and very quiet and LISTEN to the inner promptings. To listen to the inner voice that can guide you to the next best step of action.

Knowing this is a movie, that is not really happening is the largest level of seeing and is SEEING THROUGH the matrix. We may experience crisis but it’s not no more real than anything else. But, since we are in this local self and that local self requires food and shelter, we still have to protect and nourish the vessel we live in to allow ourselves to continue the work that the higher self does THROUGH us. And while we let go and let the infinite mind do the heavy lifting we are still required to carry out the participating work of action.

So for Dottie and her husband and for you and for all of you who are going through a challenge like this, I hold you in my heart and I am blown by your courage and strength.  Sometimes we are vital part of the larger hand of grace that moves through people to action. And so I invoke and invite the wisdom of the whole to speak and to serve in any way you can.  May you feel gratitude for the blessings of your life and may find yourself in perfect alignment with will of the all with peace of mind in the shelter of love . May you know the safety and protection that comes from the knowledge that death is not real and that you are eternal and separation is impossible.  This is the bottom line of every movie script everywhere.
